Andrew Chapel
Andrew Chapel is music educator, trumpet player, and conductor based out of Seattle, Washington. He currently teaches beginning band, orchestra, and elementary music in Kent, Washington. He also serves as director of North Seattle College’s Modern Jazz Ensemble and assistant director of the North Seattle Symphonic Band.
Andy regularly works as a guest teaching artist and performer, serving organizations such as the Bellevue Youth Symphony Orchestra, Puget Brass Academy, Seattle Trans and Nonbinary Choral Ensemble, the Evergreen City Ballet, and the Eastshore Solo & Ensemble Festival.
Prior to moving to Washington, Mr. Chapel taught beginning strings and high school orchestra in St. Joseph, Missouri. He served nine schools across the district, while regularly collaborating with fellow teachers on student involvement in the City Honor Orchestra and the Kansas City All-District orchestra. He was regularly on-call as a sectional coach for marching bands, orchestras, and concert bands in the Kansas City area.
Mr. Chapel is an alumnus of the University of Missouri – Kansas City Conservatory. During this time, he studied trumpet with Dr. Keith Benjamin and Dr. Jennifer Oliverio, conducting with Dr. Joseph Parisi, and performed with UMKC’s wind ensembles, jazz bands, and chamber groups. He has had the opportunity to perform with professional and community ensembles across seven states, including venues such as the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, Benaroya Hall, North American Brass Band Championships (with the award-winning Fountain City Brass Academy Band), and Kansas and Missouri Music Educators Conferences.
Andrew Chapel now lives in the Seattle area with his partner and their adorable cat. He sings with and serves on the board of STANCE, Seattle’s only ensemble by and for transgender and non-binary musicians. Outside of work, Andy enjoys roller skating, painting, and exploring Washington with his partner.
